Raquel is an adult psychodynamic psychotherapist at Soke Wimbledon. She supports clients aged 18 years and over who are experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions, both common and complex. Depending on the client’s needs, Raquel provides both short-term interventions and open-ended therapy, taking a psychoanalytic approach. Her specialisms focus on personality disorders, trauma and major depressive episodes, loss, self-harm, anorexia, body and gender dysphoria.
Raquel has worked as an honorary psychotherapist in the NHS, at The Maudsley Hospital and The Tavistock Clinic. In her private work outside of Soke Wimbledon, Raquel offers online support to humanitarian workers out in the field and ad-hoc assistance to asylum seekers.
Raquel is a registered member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She gained an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London and continued with associated studies at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and The Tavistock Clinic.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Raquel had an international career in the corporate world. She holds an MSc in Sea Use Law, Economics and Policy from London School of Economics, and an MBA from London Business School. This allows Raquel to understand clients across different cultures, and also to provide deeply considered support for those experiencing work-related pressures.
In her practice at Soke Wimbledon, Raquel seeks to understand the reason why her clients are engaging in therapy, beyond the presenting problem. By developing a trustful, balanced working relationship with her clients, Raquel aims to provide a space in which they can open up and reach long-term solutions of their own. Looking into the past, Raquel allows her clients to think about the present, while discovering clues to help explain feelings, emotions, behaviour, reactions to situations and existing coping mechanisms.
Raquel also practices in fluent Spanish.
