Dr Richard Graham, Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Richard Graham is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist, who works with children and adolescents. In addition to supporting young people with a wide range of mental health challenges, he pioneered the assessment of how online harms may cause or worsen mental health difficulties, and what supports recovery. His understanding of how technology can impact upon development has also helped him to support gamers who are thought to be addicted to video games. He is committed to improving the life chances of young people in their use of technology.

Dr Graham established the first Technology Addiction service for young people in the UK, in 2010, and contributed to the World Health Organization’s international classification of ‘Gaming Disorder’. He has been actively involved in the UK Council for Internet Safety, worked with the BBC as consultant to the Own It app and acted as adviser to companies including TikTok and Yubo.

Outside of his practice at The Soke, Dr Graham is a member of the Ofcom Making Sense of Media Advisory Panel, works with the Royal College of Psychiatrists as Online Harms Lead, Child & Adolescent Faculty, and shares his expertise with the teenage mental health charity stem4.
