Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is a structured, short-term form of psychotherapy that focuses on improving a person’s relationships and social interactions to help with mental health issues, especially depression. It is based on the idea that our relationships and life events significantly impact our emotional well-being.

IPT typically focuses on four key areas:

  1. Grief & Loss – Coping with the death of a loved one or a major loss.

  2. Role Transitions – Adjusting to life changes like a new job, divorce, or becoming a parent.

  3. Interpersonal Conflicts – Resolving conflicts in relationships (family, romantic, work).

  4. Interpersonal Deficits – Improving communication and building stronger social connections.

It is evidence-based and commonly used for depression, but it can also help with anxiety, eating disorders, and other conditions.
